SASell - How do I activate My Account

Once registered you will receive E-Mail confirmation which will provide a link to click on.
Clicking on the email link will activate your account.
SASell - How do I become verified
Verification is required for all sellers, before they can list an item for sale.

This is a process whereby you pay a small setup cost (R10) via Credit Card to SASell to confirm you as a verified Seller. This process verifies that you are the person you say you are, by validating your name and details via payment details eg credit card.

This process provides additional assurance for the buyer, knowing that they are dealing with a verified seller.

Note: A credit card is normally the safest way to pay for auctions won through SASell because the credit card issuer will normally credit your account if you don't receive your merchandise, or if goods received are damaged or totally different to that described in the listing. They may charge a fee for such a credit, so buyers are encouraged to contact their own credit card company if they are unsure.
SASell - How to Sell Basics
1. You've got something to sell, for example, a book. Click on the Sell Button on the SASELL site. List your item specifying a start price and a reserve price above which you will sell it.

2. Members then bid on the book. We notify bidders when they are outbid.

3. If the auction closes above reserve, we'll email you and the highest bidder each other's details. Email them to arrange payment and delivery. NOTE: You may NOT leave Address or Phone number details in the auction listing (except for Property listings) . Any items found breaking this rule will be deleted from Auction immediately with no account credit refund.

4. If bidding meets your reserve, you will be charged a success fee and legally obligated to complete the sale. There is no fee or obligation to sell if the top bid is less than your reserve price.

5. You need to register to buy or sell. Registration is free, but to list an item to Sell you must have a credit balance in your account to cover any special listing fees, and success (end-of-auction) fees.

SASell - Creating a Great Listing - Basics
1. Title. Use a descriptive title with relevant keywords to help your item to be easily found.

2. Price. Search SASell to see what similar items are selling for. You can also sell the item at a fixed price, called BUY NOW.

3. Good photographs. Provide good quality, well lit photos of the actual item. You can upload several photos.
4. Description. The more details you provide, the better. Include the brand & model, age, condition and features.

5. Finishing time. Set your auction to finish at a convenient time for potential buyers.

6. Shipping. Include shipping costs. Buyers prefer to know up-front what the shipping costs will be.

7. Payment. Many people accept payment through direct bank deposit. For high value items, buyers prefer the option of paying through Credit Card.

8. Promotional extras. Various options are available for enhanced listing of your item - A featured item will display right at the top of the SASell home page and could get up to 80% more bids.
SASell - After the Auction Closes - Basics
1. The seller emails their bank account number or payment details to the buyer, or telephone them to arrange this, if required. You could also make direct payments via the SASell site. The end of auction fee (success fee) is automatically deducted from the Sellers account.

2. The buyer should pay for the goods plus any shipping costs the seller stated. Ensure they provide you with their delivery details.

3. The seller then send the goods to buyer once payment is received and cleared. You should both then place feedback on the trade.

SASell - Placing A Bid
Placing a bid on an item you are interested in couldn’t be easier, when viewing the item details page you will have two areas from where you can place your bid, one next to the item details and a second at the bottom of the page.

To place your bid simply enter the amount you wish to bid e.g. R50.00. Please note no currency symbols are required. The bid will be placed in the auction currency.

Once done you will be asked to review your bid and you will also be able to view vital item details such as the shipping conditions before confirming your bid. To submit your bid simply press the “Place Bid” button.

If your bid is high enough to take the lead in the auction a confirmation message will be displayed to you, however if your bid has not taken the lead be it due to a higher proxy bid or not meeting the reserve price you will be invited to make a further bid.

Should you decide to retract your bid this can be done via the “Current Bids” section of the member’s area.

You can also place a proxy bid, proxy bidding allows you to place your “High Bid”. At all times you will only pay the lowest required bid should you win the auction. For example, if the current bid on an auction is R500.00 you can place a proxy bid of R2,000. Should you remain the only bidder you will only pay R500.00. However should the item receive other bids the site will automatically re-bid for you (upto R2,000 in this scenario) to ensure you remain in the lead.

SASell - How To Sell
To list your item simply click on the “Sell” link found on the header navigational bar. The listing process is split up into several main sections, notably:-
  • Category selection
  • Item Details
  • Auction Settings
  • Shipping and Payment
  • Listing preview
  • Listing confirmation

The listing process is developed in such a way that you are guided through every step seamlessly.

The first part of the process is to choose the category you wish to list your item in, this can be revised at any time by using the “Previous Step” navigation button.

Step two enables you to enter your item title and description, a full wysiwyg editor is in place to enable you to use HTML descriptions.

If you have a voucher code to redeem this can be entered just below the description field.

Moving on to step three, this is the biggest stage of the listing process. On this step you can set the following:-

· Auction type:-
Standard Auction
This is a single quantity auction

· Currency:-

You can select your preferred auction currency using the drop down menu available, only Rand is available on SASell.

· · Auction Starts At:-

This requires you to enter the minimum bid you are willing to accept, you can also set a reserve price to ensure you do not sell the item for this amount. Please see below for more information on this.

· Reserve Price:-

Enabling a reserve price affectively means you will not sell the item for less than the amount set, for example you can set the start price at 5.00 but only accept winning bids over 50.00, should a bid be placed for 49.99 the item will close without a winner.

· Buy out (if available):-

Buy out allows you to set an amount you are willing to sell the item for – straight out. For example you can set the start price to 10.00 but offer interested parties the option to buy the item immediately for 100.00.

You can also list buy out only auctions, these auctions remove all bidding options meaning the listing can only be purchased for a set amount. To set a buy out only auction you need to set the buy out value to be exactly equal with the start bid.

·· Bid increment:-

This option can be used to set your own custom bid increment if preferred.

· Item featuring (if available):-

The following options are available to you (fees may apply), these will highlight your item on site to ensure they reach more visitors:-

    • Home page featured
    • Category featured
    • Bold text
    • Highlighted background

· Set start/end time:-

You can either opt to list your item right away and set a defined number of days for it to be live for or you also have the option to define your own custom start/end time.

· Private Auction:-

Private auction will hide the bidders identity on the item details page

· Image upload:-

To accompany your item you can either upload images from your local computer or enter the URL of an image(s) hosted elsewhere

· Media upload:-

In addition to images you can also upload media files such as movies etc, please note only .avi/.mpeg/.mov are supported.

· Auto Re-List

For convenience you can opt to have your items automatically re-listed for you, options are available to allow you to select whether the item should be re-listed if sold and how many re-list attempts should be made.

On the next step you can set your shipping and payment preferences including your shipping rates and available methods of delivery.

Proceeding on, you can then review the listing and make changes if required, please note you can still edit your listing once live via the members area.

The final step provides you with listing confirmation.
SASell - BUY NOW
If the option is available you can use “Buy NOW” to purchase the item immediately without having to place a bid. Some sellers offer such an option which can be used at any time until a bid has been placed over any applicable reserve price.

The “Buy NOW” option will appear on the item details page, you will be asked to confirm your intention to buy out the item before the sale is concluded. BUY NOW’s cannot be retracted.

SASell - Safe Buying and Selling Recommendations
We have listed our guidelines for safe buying below. If you combine them with common sense, they will ensure many a safe trade.
Know your seller
Review the member's selling feedback.
Click their feedback rating. This shows other items they've sold recently and comments from previous buyers.

Make sure the seller is Verified.
Sellers can verify themselves for free and it helps us track the seller down in the rare event that something goes wrong.

Know what you're buying
Carefully read the item description and answers to questions.
Before you bid you need to know exactly what is being auctioned - including any free accessories, the age and condition of item and even why it's being sold. Poor language or communication skills may be an early warning sign that the auction could lead to problems, if you struggle to understand each other.

Ask your own questions and ensure the seller answers them. Lots of unanswered questions are a danger sign.

Be very careful of sellers who bypass the auction process.
Transactions conducted outside of SASell have a much lower chance of being resolved if they go wrong. Bypass the standard process at your own risk.

Check the postage or courier costs. Postage typically costs extra and will vary greatly based on the item and your distance from the seller. Make sure you understand the delivery costs before bidding. If the seller will let you pick up, we suggest you do.

Pay wisely
Only pay into South African bank accounts or by credit card. Never pay for goods with cash, cheques, money orders, Western Union, or any form of instant cash transfers that cannot be traced. Payment by PayPal is uncommon in South Africa and is not recommended. Credit card payments via SASell is a safe and secure method for online credit card payments.

Get a phone number. If you are the winning bidder on a higher value item, ask the seller for a phone number and address in case you need to call them.

Keep all payment details and emails exchanged with the seller.
These details will help us locate the seller if things go wrong.

We recommend using a Third Party escrow service for higher value items from higher risk sellers with low feedback ratings or who are not Verified.

If something does go wrong...

Most problems are the result of either poor communication or differing expectations between the buyer and the seller.

Stay in contact with the seller and ensure you understand when to expect delivery. Sellers will typically wait for payment to clear before shipping goods, which can take a couple of days or longer on weekends and bank holidays. Delivery itself can reasonably take another 2-4 business days meaning a possibility of seven days or more between paying and receiving goods.

Frequently buyers and sellers may not be receiving one another's emails due to spam filters or email filtering. Check your junk or bulk email folders.

If you have paid and the seller isn't responding to your emails, place a neutral or negative feedback on the seller saying so. This should prompt them into action and serves to warn other buyers. You can edit the feedback you place, but only once.

If you still can't contact the seller after several days, or think you are the victim of fraud, please contact us immediately. We normally suspend the accounts of sellers/buyers connected with proven fraud.

The vast majority of problems reported to us resolve themselves through good communication and patience. So be patient, use your common sense, and happy buying and selling.

SASell - Account Balances, Top-Ups and Refund Policy
It is always a good thing to Top Up your account and keep a positive balance to avoid possible automatic suspension of your account and all auction items. Please contact us immediately if you have any problems with payments.

When you sign up, your account will allow you a small debit (negative balance). You will also have a R10 credit in your account from the verification process. This is to get you started so you can list items for sale quickly.

However, if the sale is successful, and the item is sold is of high value, then the End of Auction Fee (Success fee) may take your account balance into the negative beyond your debit limit. If the limit is exceeded, the system may then immediately suspend your account and your auctions, until your account is Topped Up.

Refund Policy
Note: Initial account credits resulting from the Verification process are taken as a verification setup fee and are non-refundable.

All Top-Up amounts and account balances are non-refundable, but may be used towards auction sales until depleted.

However, in exceptional cases only, if an account was topped up incorrectly due to an honest mistake, please contact us immediately. We will investigate and try our best to rectify this. However, any refunds given in exceptional cases, will be subject to the prior deduction of credit card processing fees that SASell would have already incurred, depending on amount. This fee will be deducted from any refunds.

In cases of fraud, which may occur rarely, where you can prove that a Buyer acted fraudulantly by refusing to honor their obligations and pay for items won, the fees portion for that particular auction may be re-credited to your account. Please contact us within 7 days of such fraud occurring, providing full details of all fraudulant activity.
Please make sure you have followed all steps in the Safe Buying and Selling section above.
SASell - Auction Watch
The auction watch features notifies you of newly listed auctions which contain keywords you have chosen. For example if you are looking for a new Digital Camera you could enter in those keywords from within your members area area. Each time a new auction is listed containing those keywords you will be notified via email.
SASell - Item Watching
The item watch features lets you keep a close eye on any auction without having to place a bid on it. This feature means you can be kept up to date on how an auction is doing and prepares you to place a winning last minute bid. You can watch any auction by clicking on the “Watch this item” link on any auction page.
